The large 1" outside diameter with .2" thick walls means that it can carry the volume of water needed right to the end of the line. The extra thick walls means slower soaking for a more efficient watering and less breakdown, common to less expensive soaker hoses. NOTE: The hose may need to be "burped" or have air removed. It's really a normal size hose so when and if I want to cut the hose to the length I want or repair it I can put new ends on it. It's heavy duty yet does a really good job of soaking the area where it is placed. I use soaker hoses in my garden and bury them and plant just above them so the roots get the water. I use rain water and a pump to get the water from the barrels to the hose so the pressure isn't as strong as if it were coming from the hose. Despite the lesser pressure the hoses work well.
