If you like/enjoy any of the works of LCD Soundsystem, this is a must-own recording. If you haven't read anything else about it, this was the band's farewell show, a planned final performance at Madison Square Garden. As a result, there was more thought/planning/production put into this concert than any that I can I think of in many years (or longer). All you have to do is watch the movie, "Shut Up And Play The Hits," to see what a unique show this was. All of that being said, this album contains the entire recording of that concert (over 3 hours), which includes 28 songs in all. The selection of songs is absolutely perfect: I would say it's like a live "greatest hits" album, but one that actually includes all of the best songs, both popular and fan-favorites. I'm sure if you own or have read any reviews on "greatest hits" albums, most of the time they don't contain all of the songs that fans think should have been included. On top of that, the concert was specifically set up to be recorded in high quality analog (1/4 inch tape) and mixed by James Murphy himself (the founder/leader of the group). The recording itself is very high quality, and though not quite at the level of the vinyl version, it still sounds great on MP3 (see side note below regarding vinyl). Finally, LCD Soundsystem was (and remains) an amazing live band. Although they are often categorized as "electronic" or "dance" music, I would describe them more as a rock/punk band that has electronic influences in their beats. And though I would say that you can hear that rock/punk aspect in their studio albums, it truly comes through in their live performance. Everything you hear is being played by a person; it is not electronic beats/samples with some actual live music over it. The drum beats and percussion are all being played live, as well as any synthesizer and every other instrument or sound you hear. It's not the "automated" live shows that have become more and more common. So, with all that being said, this is a top-notch recording of an amazing performance from a brilliant band.Side note: The entire album was recorded, mixed, and mastered specifically for vinyl, which is why it is not available on CD. I own the vinyl box set, and it is amazing (and comes with a digital download card). However, given that the vinyl box set is around $100 or so, it's not going to be for everybody, especially if you don't have a record player. If you are a die hard fan, you own a turntable, and can afford it, then it's a must-own if you don't already have it.
